Full Job Description

We are seeking an outstanding clinician with ambition, vision and an excellent track record in dental education, and who is, or has the potential to become, a national leader in thefield. The appointee will work primarily with colleagues on delivering, managing anddeveloping our modern, innovative undergraduate dental curricula.

Opportunities to contribute to the wider educational activity of the School will be tailored to the successful candidate's experience, qualifications and interests.

As a leader in the Schools education team, this role will help shape strategies for the development of the discipline andcontribute to leadership in the delivery of excellent education and student experience.

The role holder will work with the School leadership to realise our strategic ambitions.The appointment will be held at Bristol Dental School and will ultimately be responsible tothe Head of School.

Opportunities exist to develop your passion in teaching and, where appropriate, relevant research.

Collaboration is strongly encouraged between dental specialties and is core to the vision behind our integrated undergraduate curricula.

We have strong links with teachers and researchers in other academic disciplines across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and wider University which the post holder will be encouraged to build on., Supporting the Schools Director of Education in academic leadership including setting the Schools strategic direction in teaching and assessment

Being a key link between the Schools leadership and clinical teaching staff to ensure our educational strategy is embedded across all of the Schools teaching activities

Ensuring quality in the Schools provision of education, including chairing relevant committees, supporting year leads, supporting the annual programme review process, and, where appropriate, representing the School at Faculty and/or University education meetings

Contributing to leadership in the Schools implementation of the General Dental Councils Safe Practitioner learning outcomes

Contributing to and/or leading development of the Schools strategies on digital dentistry and sustainability

Contributing to and/or leading widening participation activities and student recruitment

Supporting the Schools Strategic Leadership Team in decision-making in response to internal and external opportunities and challenges to ensure our educational provision remains student-focussed, high quality and financially sustainable

For appropriately qualified and experienced candidates, leading the Schools developing interests in pedagogic research

Supporting junior colleagues in developing their careers in dental education, including through direct line management, and contributing towards strategic succession planning.

Bristol Dental School leads multi-disciplinary research in laboratory, clinical and population sciences.

The research groups and laboratories are based in Dorothy Hodgkin Building and the Dental School, facilitating close working relationships with clinical researchers and complementary research activity aligned to the Medical School, ensuring a key critical mass and world-leading research quality.

We have a successful strategy for developing the next generation of clinical academics through formal Integrated Academic & Clinical Training schemes, with researchers working across world-leading Dental and Medical research teams.

Bristol Dental School was the first UK Dental School to hold the Silver Award, and we are proud to continue to hold a Silver Athena Swan award highlighting its positive approach to equal opportunities.

We continue to make improvements to working culture and to foster collaboration and team working within our new Dental School.

We are a welcoming and supportive community, and are undertaking further work to increase the inclusivity within our School through design of the new building, and other education-related activities such as our curriculum decolonisation project.

Additionally, we are developing a programme of in-house continuing professional development to support our teams to stay at the forefront of modern education and clinical practice.
