Full Job Description

As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies. Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi. You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others. Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a pre requisite for this post., Specific duties include:
+ 3 cardiology clinics (including chest pain clinic) per week (2 - 3 half days).
+ 1 - 2 echocardiography lists per week.
+ 1 cath lab list per week
+ Flexible cross-cover of Cardiology SpRs for inpatient care including approximately 1 in 11 weeks as the ward registrar for the week
+ When suitably experienced, participation in the cardiology registrar on-call rota with prospective cover (1 in 11 resident on call shifts).
+ The successful applicant will be expected to undertake occasional teaching of medical students, including lectures where appropriate., To provide middle grade (registrar) medical support to the Cardiology inpatient and outpatient services at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust under the direction of the responsible Consultant Cardiologists.
This post offers an opportunity for clinical experience in general cardiology in the setting of a teaching hospital and tertiary cardiac surgical centre. The post would suit a junior doctor seeking to obtain specialist experience prior to applying for a Cardiology SPR rotation, or a middle grade doctor with cardiology experience aiming to develop their expertise in a tertiary centre towards the CESR pathway.
The weekly timetable will balance service requirements of the department with the training and experience aims of the doctor.
There are strong research links (both clinical and molecular) with the Universities of Warwick and Coventry, and also with the Departments of Clinical Pharmacology and Diabetes & Endocrinology. Professor Banerjee holds a personal chair at Coventry and Warwick Universities, and Professors Osman & Dhanjal at Warwick University.
All Specialist Registrars and Clinical Fellows have a named Educational Supervisor for support and advice with career development.
