The post-holder will be expected to attend morning board rounds, ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings run from their base ward. He/she will be expected to help organize and support the junior staff in the day-to-day running of the ward, ensure discharge summaries are appropriately completed by junior staff, and help coordinate discharge planning. Each day starts with all patients review with Consultant prioritising sick patient and early discharges followed by Morning board round with Nursing and allied teams.

The Trust operates an integrated approach to Medicine on both sites (Denmark Hill and PRUH). Activity within Medicine as a whole is organized on a ward based structure, each sub-speciality has its' own ward base.

The management of inpatient stay is one of the trust's key performance areas. As well as managing attendances in collaboration with acute medicine and Emergency Care, we are also closely associated with innovative and collaborative Intermediate Care schemes such as the Home based rehabilitation team and Bed Based rehabilitation team. A team of Discharge coordinators, responsible for the management of complex discharges across the Hospital, also works from within the PRUH.

The team is also closely associated with the Medical School and regards the inter- relationship between clinical services and research and development as a key component in delivering high quality patient-centred services.
