Senior Fellow/coordinator: equivalent to ST6-7 or post-CCT (Nodal Point 5). This role includes more expectation of leadership, supervision, teaching, independent working, while still supported by the consultant body. The candidates will need to prove ability in leading resuscitation and stabilisation at birth of complex patients, coordinating intensive care, and managing referrals from other hospitals, providing teaching and supervision for the junior members of the team, offering antenatal counselling and supporting families, taking part in multidisciplinary meetings. The role also includes a high level hands-on activity, especially in the most complicated cases, where full confidence in technical skills will be required.

Ability to fulfil the criteria of case loading doctor or coordinator will be determined by the level of seniority demonstrated during the interview process.

We have positions available starting in March 2025 and September 2025. We operate a rolling rota that complies fully with the European Working Time Directive (EWTD) and the current contract guidelines (42 hours/week, with a maximum of 1:3 weekends). This position is suitable for candidates with previous registrar-level experience in a level three neonatal unit. Senior candidates meeting the criteria outlined in the Job Description and Person Specification will be appointed at a Nodal point 4 or 5 level, depending on the experience demonstrated in their application and interview, as well as their ability to fulfil the specific roles described in this advert.

In accordance with the seniority required for this role, MTI candidates who are in their first experience in the UK will not be considered for appointment.

The Neonatal Unit at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital is the largest in the South Thames Region and one of the largest in the UK, with 20 Intensive Care, 12 High Dependency and 14 Special Care beds. There are over 6,500 yearly births on-site, and the majority are from a high risk, inner city local population. There is an academic Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine Department. A substantial number of antenatal referrals and in-utero transfers occur due to a wide range of Maternal Medicine tertiary services, including Diabetes, Lupus, Cardiology and Renal Medicine. Fetal Medicine and Fetal Cardiology services also account for many of these.

There is a close working relationship with subspecialties including the departments of Fetal and Paediatric Cardiology, Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, Paediatric General Surgery, Paediatric Anaesthesia, Paediatric Neurology, Paediatric Nephrology & Urology, Paediatric Metabolic Medicine, Paediatric ENT, Plastic Surgery (including the Regional Cleft Lip & Palate Service), Orthopaedic Surgery and Genetics.

A 3T MRI scanner is located on the unit as part of the Kings College London academic department of Perinatal Imaging. This large, world-class research team is integrated within the clinical service and we are able to facilitate exceptionally high-quality research and clinical scans.

There is a large throughput of complex tertiary cases on the unit, and this post offers considerable opportunities for education and advanced clinical training.
