Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an excellent regional cancer centre. The post holder will be working with our team of 17 Clinical and Medical Consultant Oncologists, 3 Specialist Doctors, 4 SAS doctors, Senior Clinical Fellow, Junior Clinical Fellows and 10 Registrars. It will provide excellent Oncology experience and plentiful educational opportunities for the post-holder, who will be encouraged to participate in clinical trials within the department and to take part in a quality improvement project. This is an excellent opportunity for those pursuing a career in Oncology who are looking to gain experience. The post is for 6 months in the first instance. Candidates should have evidence of experience and/or interest in Oncology., Specialty Doctor
Hours: non-acute weeks (8 out of 9 weeks): Mon-Fri 40 hours per week
Acute weeks (1 in 9 weeks): Mon-Fri 0900-1900 50 hours per week
One weekend in 9: Saturday and Sunday 0900-2100
Responsible to: Educational Supervisor
Accountable to: Dr Jessica Bailey, Clinical Lead for Oncology
Responsible for: Clinical Fellow in Oncology at ST3+ level

Key relationships:
The oncology team including doctors, nurses and the multidisciplinary specialist team involved in comprehensive patient care. Outpatient clinical staff. Departmental managerial and administrative staff. Acute Oncology Haematology and Ward staff.
Professional/Clinical responsibilities:
-review of patients in both outpatient and inpatient setting with senior support
-arrange appropriate investigations, ensure treatments are appropriately prescribed, accurate and timely documentation and letters to GPs
-work alongside CNS team in management of patients
-work with research team as required on clinical trials
-discuss cases with the appropriate specialised/disease-specific team
-perform practical procedures after appropriate training
-attend and contribute to departmental meetings and seminars
-work closely and co-operatively with colleagues to ensure duties of the service are supported
-to cover the duties of colleagues who are unexpectedly absent
-ensure leave requests submitted with sufficient notice and clinical cover to maintain safe patient care

Dr Alex D'Agapeyeff is Chief of Service for D&S. Our trust prides itself on delivering the best care for everyone. We provide a wide range of specialist hospital services from our two main sites at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals. Gloucestershire Oncology Centre is located on the Cheltenham General Hospital site and provides cancer services for a population of more than 1.1 million people living in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and parts of Shropshire and Powys. Radiotherapy is provided at Cheltenham General Hospital with a satellite unit at Hereford County Hospital. Systemic treatment is delivered at Cheltenham and Hereford and also from our mobile chemotherapy unit which travels to 4 community hospital sites each week. There are
40 dedicated beds in our Centre accepting both Oncology and malignant haematology patients. A dedicated and staffed space is provided within the Centre for the care of those suffering acute side effects of treatment and disease, which is accessed directly by patients. The Centre currently registers more than 4000 new patients per year.
