Full Job Description

We are seeking to employ two Senior Clinical Fellows in paediatric surgery and urology (6 months, with possibility of extension/ longer contract) to assist cover of general paediatric surgery and urology in-patient and out-patient clinical care.

The main objectives of the post are to:

  • Support inpatient surgical management of elective and emergency workload

  • Outpatient clinic duties including administration

  • Outpatient and day surgery support to outreach hospitals in North-West London

  • On call commitment in line with European working time directive


  • Responsibilities will include:
    1. To support, with colleagues in Paediatric Surgery/Urology, an integrated elective and emergency Paediatric & Neonatal Surgery service.
    2. To provide high quality clinical care for all children referred to the service and to be available to attend paediatric surgery/urology patients when on call.
    3. To provide appropriate and adequate supervision for junior medical staff within the Paediatric Surgical and Urology team.
    4. To participate in regular unit and personal audit of clinical practice

    General paediatric Surgical on call rota:

    The on call rota covers general paediatric surgical and urological inpatients as well as neonatal ward in-patients including high dependency and emergency admissions. The post holder will do a 24 hour non resident on call shift as part of a 1: 8 rota.

    The acute paediatric service caters for 30,600 emergency attendances per year and over 4,000 acute admissions per year. The inpatient unit caters for a whole range of specialist patients in addition to acute paediatrics including neurology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, respirology, and cardiology; in addition paediatric general and specialist surgery, trauma & orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, dental and maxillofacial, craniofacial. A full range of imaging services is on site including MRI, supported by paediatric anaesthesia.
