Full Job Description

Senior Fellows will work alongside a team of 9 UGI consultants, 4 training registrars, a total of 3 senior fellows, 2 junior registrars/fellows, 2 Core Trainees and 9 FY1s, with a variety of subspecialties including pancreato-biliary cancer, oesphago-gastric cancer or complex benign upper GI surgery. They will have the opportunity to benefit from consultant-led training in theatre, access to endoscopy, outpatient clinics and MDTs. Other opportunities within these posts include contribution to research, undergraduate and postgraduate education and management/leadership roles.
As well as contributing to the smooth running of the elective wards alongside the other registrars, fellows also participate in the 1:13 (minimum) general on call rota which provides cover to the acute emergency general surgery service in Hull Royal Infirmary as well as out of hours non-resident cover for the elective site Castle Hill Hospital. This will provide experience to emergency care/theatres and multi-disciplinary working in a Major Trauma Centre. As well as providing emergency care to the people of Hull, we also provide tertiary level OG, pancreatic and colorectal care for the surrounding population. We are pleased to offer 1 post to join our Pancreatic Unit in Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Pancreatic Surgery. We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious individual looking to further their career in pancreatic surgery. This post is suited to candidates nearing, or who have completed their general surgery training (or equivalent).

The Upper GI Unit in Castle Hill provides tertiary level care to approximately 1.25 million people across North Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Around 60-70 major OG and 50-60 pancreatic resectional cases are performed each year as well as a large volume of complex benign UGI cases., Hull University Teaching Hospitals is part of one of the largest acute and community Group arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion.
