Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow to work within the Plastic Surgery Department. This would be ideally suited to fully registered doctors seeking to extend their existing exposure in the speciality. There may be a requirement to participate in the on-call rota working alongside middle grade colleagues.

In this role you will be working within a supportive and educationally focused environment. Although this post is not recognised for training purposes, considerable 'hands on' training is provided in line with skills and experience.

This is a full time post fixed term post for 12 months.

Previous experience in Plastic Surgery is essential.

The unit treats the full range of general adult and paediatric plastic surgery conditions including patients with major and minor burns. Microsurgical procedures are performed on elective and emergency patients. Day case surgery under both local and general anaesthetic is carried out

Morbidity and mortality audit is performed monthly, and quarterly clinical governance meetings are help. The Junior Trust Doctor will be expected to organise a major topic audit in liaison with clinical audit department.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day care of in-patients and be expected to attend operating sessions and outpatient clinics (depending on the Consultant attachment).

Weekly teaching meetings - with Consultant input - are held.

Undergraduate medical student teaching has commenced in 2003. The Plastic Surgery Directorate has active links with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) with trainees undertaking laboratory research at the University. Considerable opportunities exist for research and development, which are integral to teaching hospital status.

This post is subject to the National Terms and Conditions of service for Hospital medical and dental staff (England and Wales) Sept 2002 and remuneration will be as set out in the NHS Medical and Dental Pay Circular.
