Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic team based at Epsom & St Helier Hospital as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics. The job plan consists of elective spinal clinics, elective hand clinics, general fracture clinics, elective operating support for spine and hands, trauma and on-calls. The post is designed to provide you with a thorough and comprehensive approach to surgical management of patients. The educational methods include assessment of patients in clinics, pre-operative planning sessions, rounds and direct surgical experience. This post is for 9 month fixed term only. Contract ends 30th Sept 25. You will be part of the 1:12 on-call rota. Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the specialty and referred to the specialty.

  • Participation in the middle grade on call rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for colleagues' absence.
  • Attending clinics and assessing patients and formulating treatment decisions seeking advice from the consultant as appropriate.
  • Attending operating sessions with the consultant and assisting or performing operations as appropriate.
  • Conducting daily ward rounds on inpatients under the consultant's care, supervising the junior doctors in the care of these patients.
  • Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.
  • Communication with other team members as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy, to develop and implement integrated orthopaedic and emergency care pathways throughout the Trust.
  • Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
  • Abide by the Clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the Trust.
  • To make sure that the guidance from the General Medical Council on Good Medical Practice is at the centre of your clinical practice.
  • Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is a large acute Trust with 768 beds, which hosts the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC) and provides a growing specialist orthopaedic service for the South West London and Surrey area. The EOC is the largest centre of its kind in the UK and is fast becoming recognised as a centre of excellence. The post holder will be required to participate in the Middle Grade (Registrar) on call rota on a 1:12 basis, shared with colleagues. The post holder will also be required to participate on the Registrar of the Week Rota. At night the hospital runs a Hospital at Night service and as such the post holder will be expected to work as part of that team. At night, the Hospital at Night team base should be used during quiet periods. However, the Registrar is non-resident on call after 8pm
