Full Job Description

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Fellow (ST3+ level) in General Surgery. The post is for 6 months in the first instance with the opportunity to extend. The successful applicant will work in the capacity of a registrar to one of the consultants within the General Surgery Unit and will be responsible for both inpatient elective and emergency work as well as supporting the trauma team whilst on call. The General Surgery Unit is served by four consultants with sub-specialist interest in UGI, vascular surgery, Paediatric surgery and endocrine. Main duties of the job The successful applicant will work in the capacity of a registrar to one of the consultants within the General Surgery Unit and will be responsible for both inpatient elective and emergency work as well as supporting the trauma team whilst on call. The General Surgery Unit is served by four consultants with sub-specialist interest in UGI, vascular surgery, Paediatric surgery and endocrine. The post is not approved for basic or higher surgical training but will provide ample training opportunities and will suit a senior trainee committed to a Surgical career or seeking additional experience of General surgery at registrar level. Previous NHS experience is essential for this role.   • Completion of ST2 level or equivalent.
  • Experience of Clinical Audit

  • Formal experience in education and training
  • Published in peer review journal
  • Skills Essential
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary
  • Strong sense of responsibility
  • Up-to-date resuscitation Skills
  • Desirable
  • Demonstrable interest in general surgery
  • CCrISP, ATLS
  • Knowledge Essential
  • Previous experience of General surgery, outpatient clinics and inpatient workload and breast surgery
  • Desirable
  • Endoscopy skills
  • Laparoscopic surgery experience, MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCS/FRCS or equivalent
  • GMC Registration with license to practise
  • Desirable
  • Higher Degree, Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary environment. Strong sense of responsibility
  • Able to work as part of a team and self motivated
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good communication and verbal skills
