Full Job Description
Applications are open for an Upper GI Senior Clinical Fellow who wishes to gain experience in Upper GI surgery. The role would be suitable for a senior trainee and is for a maximum of 12 months but can be extended on review and with appropriate appraisal. In addition to Upper GI registrar work, the duties of the post include overseeing the care of admitted Upper GI / General Surgical patients, and supporting the consultants with elective operative work and administration duties. The appointed candidate will be expected to carry out a degree of clinical work (clinics) independently. There is access to modern imaging (CT/MRI/PET-CT), Endoscopy (ERCP and EUS) and robotics on single site.,
- The Senior Clinical Fellow will be expected to manage ward round at the level of a junior registrar (SpR 4-5) and able to supervise the junior upper GI team managing pre and post op patients. They will also be a need to be competent at managing unselected emergency take patients.
- Assist consultants in upper GI operating lists - gain operative skills.
- Expectation that the senior clinical fellow will provide some cover for work undertaken at Rugby, St Cross Hospital to support the establishment of a surgical hub.
- Competent to support delivery of outpatient activity with minimal supervision for bariatric, upper GI and general surgical emergency patient.
- The Senior Clinical Fellow will be expected to take part in all departmental audits, educational sessions and to publish and present at local and international meetings in Upper GI.
This post offers excellent exposure and experience in Upper GI surgery - including benign complex hiatal work, bariatric surgery and major upper GI cancer resectional surgery. The Senior Clinical Fellow is expected to develop operative skills in robotic surgery and judgement in the care of such patients.
