Full Job Description

The Urology Clinical Directorate offers a high quality, safe and patient focused service. The Directorate is part of the Division of Planned Care. The Urology service at WMUH is well established, treating patients via the emergency and elective pathway. It provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services working in partnership with Charing Cross Hospital. The multidisciplinary team has continued to improve the patient journey by introducing innovative ways of treating patients, including the introduction of one stop clinics allowing patients to be seen by the multidisciplinary team on the same day, thus avoiding inappropriate and unnecessary multiple visits to the Trust.
The service provides a wide range of specialist services and receives referrals for:
+ All urological cancers
+ Lower urinary tract symptoms
+ Prostate problems
+ Incontinence
+ Raised PSA
+ Abnormal renal function
+ Haematuria
+ Testicular, scrotal, penile and foreskin problems
+ Bladder and kidney problems
+ Renal/ureteric/bladder stones
+ Erectile dysfunction
+ Vasectomy requests
+ Infertility
+ Loin pain
+ Incidental urological tumours
+ Neurogenic voiding dysfunction, The successful post holder will have plenty opportunities for training in Theatres. Apart from Theatre activities his or her job plan will consist of clinics (cystoscopy clinics and general urology clinics) as well as ward rounds and there is the expectation of supporting emergency work.
The post is intended to offer appointees, where possible, equivalent opportunities for personal development as SpR's, ie a study leave entitlement and allocated study leave budget.
The successful post candidate is expected to work closely with Consultants and the other Senior Clinical Fellow.
All leave, whether annual or study leave, must be booked at least six weeks in advance after getting approval from the Clinical Lead, to fit in with the partial booking system which allows patients to choose dates for outpatient appointments. This means that leave must be co-ordinated, and may have to be refused if more than one middle grade wishes to take leave at the same time. Leave arrangements must be made in a timely way; it is only possible to carry over 5 days of leave not taken, to the next year.

Working for our organisation
We have nearly 6,000 members of staff that care for nearly one million people locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children's, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics. Our new services include:
+ Cardiac catheter service and a paediatric assessment unit on the West Middlesex site
+ Surgical assessment unit on the Chelsea site
+ New sexual health clinic at 10 Hammersmith Broadway
+ Virtual fracture clinics
+ Learning disabilities passports
Plans are in place for a £20 million expansion to critical care facilities and refurbishment of the children's unit at West Middlesex, both in partnership with the Trust's dedicated charity CW+.
Our priorities
1. Deliver high-quality patient-centred care
Patients, their friends, family and carers will be treated with unfailing kindness and respect by every member of staff in every department and their experience and quality of care will be second to none.
2. Be the employer of choice
We will provide every member of staff with the support, information, facilities and environment they need to develop in their roles and careers. We will recruit and retain people we need to deliver high-quality services to our patients and other service users., The job plan will be discussed and finalised by the Clinical Lead and the Service Manager, to include clinics, diagnostics, theatres and admin time to ensure accurate and timely record keeping.
The Urology Department at West Middlesex University Hospital is dedicated to teaching and training the junior medical staff including medical students from Imperial College.
Academic afternoons are held every Friday. Sessions include audit, mortality and morbidity, clinic-pathological conferences, and junior staff teaching, guest lectures, interdepartmental meetings etc. Clinical activities are kept to a minimum to include emergency cover only, so that all members of each team can attend.
