Full Job Description

The successful candidates will join a team involved in a broad spectrum of Plastic Surgery. A large emergency workload of upper and lower limb trauma comes from the helicopter serving this Level I Trauma Centre. The post has a record of being a postgraduate approved training post and educationally sound. It provides excellent opportunities for gaining experience in microvascular surgery specifically free-tissue transfer with a sub-specialist interest in upper and lower limb reconstruction following trauma and oncological resections for breast and head & neck malignancies. You will join a team of 17 consultants, 15 SPR level doctors and 9 SHO's. The successful candidate is expected to have experience of managing common plastic surgical emergencies, particularly upper and lower limb trauma.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • ATLS
  • Maintain Full registration with the GMC, with a licence to practice
  • FRCSPlas/Within 1 year of CCT
  • Desirable

  • Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS), Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 7 years postgraduate plastic surgery experience at registrar level equivalent to UK standards
  • Training in diagnosis and treatment of complex reconstruction conditions
  • Training in hand surgery to the level of independent operating
  • Desirable
  • Fellowship in Microsurgery
  • Fellowship in Hand Surgery
  • Further Training, Management, Audit Essential
  • Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career
  • Experience in relevant audit project and write up

  • Proven teaching ability
  • Demonstrable willingness to undertake further research

  • Ability to deal with busy multidisciplinary workloads in a major teaching hospital
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
  • Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships within the MDT team and build broad networks across the Trust
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff
