Full Job Description

Are you looking for a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic and forward thinking team, whilst developing skills across specialities, such as DBT, MBT?
The Waterview Centre may have just what you are looking for.
The Waterview Centre is a dedicated specialist personality disorder service, serving the boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster and is the only such service of its kind in the Trust. We deliver both long term Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) to individuals with high severity and complexity - often with multiple co-morbid conditions and history of high service use.
We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our small team and in return you will receive specialist training in psychological interventions to enhance your work and your career.
"The role is challenging but we look after each other and value our own and each other's wellbeing. This is the best team I've worked with in my career and I'm so proud to be here"- Senior Nurse

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.
Waterview Centre team members are trained (training can be provided within post) in MBT and DBT models, and need the ability to apply a psychodynamic approach in maintaining therapeutic relationships and co-working within the team.
Whether you are an RMN, Social Worker, OT or Therapist, there will be space for you to practice your core profession and this will be actively encouraged by the team.

Working for our organisation
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with an innovative team that actively encourages and supports career and clinical development. You will be offered;
- Opportunities to train in DBT/MBT approaches
- Opportunities to enrol on the extensive 1 year DBT/MBT Practitioners course
- Enhanced supervision to support you in your role, including 1:1 supervision, group supervision and MBT/DBT supervision
- Wellbeing support from our intimate and close-knit team which in addition to the above includes "Wellbeing Friday" for all the staff!
- Career Mapping designed to ensure that you are developed and retained in your field, 1. To undertake assessments of clients, identifying specific personality traits, emotional ability of service user to use groups and their capacit to work towards shared treatment goals.
2. Facilitate and co-facilitate a range of therapy groups including Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) and Dialectical Based Treatment (DBT).
3. To act as Lead Professional for an identified number of service users with severe personality disorder, establishing and maintaining a long-term supportive relationship.
4. To conduct joint home visits, for engagement purposes or emergency assessments, as clinically indicated.
5. To initiate and carry through safeguarding alerts where appropriate.
6. To work with service users within intimate and emotionally intense individual and group sessions, where their behaviour may be unpredictable and challenging.
7. To undertake risk assessments and manage risk as part of the treatment process to maintain a safe and therapeutically sensitive environment for all when faced with threats of verbal abuse, deliberate self-harm and violence to self and/or others.
8. To assess the needs of carers, and work with them to best support the service user, where consent is given/appropriate.
The service, which has a long history and is the only such service within the Trust, has undergone exciting developments in the past 24 months. We are proud of the work we do in collaboration with our service users and this is highlighted no more so than the success of our service user forum, where all changes and innovations are discussed with our service users.
The service also has a track record of involvement in clinical research and links with the Division of Psychiatry at Imperial College London, including recently hosting a feasibility study for Structured Psychological Support (SPS).
