Full Job Description
To lead on communications from Southwark Council and its partners on Planning and Growth,
may need to broaden and explain resources better - wider than planning and growth as covers jobs and skills, southwark works
@Townsend, Eddie thanks it sets all this out in the next section (Principal Accountabilities)
including strategy, planning and delivery, covering all communications disciplines including campaigns, digital, marketing and media.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lead on communications for Planning and Growth (includes investment in major local projects like health centres and leisure centres, Southwark's employment support services, and town centres).
Lead on strategic communcations planning and relationships for both areas both internally eg with Cabinet, Directors and service heads, and externally eg with development partners, Transport for London and housing associations.
Deliver excellent communications to local people and stakeholders on Planning and Growth projects across all communications disciplines

Work closely with the wider communications team to ensure accurate and consistent messaging across all channels including digital and media.
Use data and insight to inform strategic planning for all communications and to evaluate campaign results.
Lead on and deliver other projects and duties as directed in line with the overall communications objectives and needs of local people and the council.
To understand and provide expert advice on how all communications can be tailored and directed to the diverse community that lives, works in or visits Southwark.
JOB CONTEXT
This Senior Communications Officer is Southwark Council's lead for all communications on Planning and Growth. The postholder will work closely with relevant Directors, Cabinet Members and service heads.
They liaise closely with the wider communications team, including the council's media and campaigns teams and events officer, to ensure well-planned, creative and effective communications.
The postholder reports to the Head of Communications - Media and Publications.
Southwark is a very diverse inner London borough of more than 300,000 people, with a significant media profile; the council is London's largest council landlord and the fourth-largest in the UK. It has many positive stories to tell, and as a large, complex organisation serving the public, it is also held to significant scrutiny and challenge.
Grade/Conditions of Service
This is a hybrid role with a minimum of two days' work in Southwark, either in Tooley Street or another office, or working on projects elsewhere in the borough for example meeting with partners or gathering content for council channels.

· Significant experience/knowledge of digital and social media content creation and an in-depth knowledge of how to tailor content for different social media platforms
· Significant experience of providing direct advice and briefing to senior managers and/or elected members on communications
· Significant experience of working in a highly pressured environment and delivering results to tight deadlines
· Experience of working with the media, both proactively pitching stories and managing inquiries and issues
· Experience of using insight and data to create communications plans and evaluate results
· Experience and understanding of how to handle communications for a business, organisation, public sector or third sector body in a crisis
· Proven ability to find solutions to communications problems and to take necessary action, using all available channels including digital, media and internal communications
· A good understanding of local government, the services provided by local councils, and the responsibilities a council has to its residents
· Excellent writing skills with a clear, concise and lively prose style, and the ability to write clearly for a range of different audiences?
