Full Job Description

This position will join Guidehouse in early 2025. This posting is intended to enable expressions of interest in our UK Energy Providers team for Senior Consultant position starting in Q1 2025 (anticipated). Our Guidehouse Energy Providers practice is collaborating with leaders in energy and utility clients to successfully navigate the energy transition, to tackle their most important challenges and capture their greatest opportunities. In a rapidly changing landscape where utilities and energy companies are transitioning to a cleaner fuel supply, increased reliability, and improved resilience, we turn vision into action. We lead and de-risk implementing new business models and technologies that are leading the way to a more sustainable future. We are thinking in integrated systems and work across value chains when creating broader decarbonization strategies and driving forward solutions like smart grids, demand response/flexibility, green gases and hydrogen, renewable power/PPAs, CCUS and the related infrastructure. To consistently bring highest value to our clients, we work in a uniquely collaborative model integrating insights from our industry, sustainability, and policy and regulation teams. We are looking to hire exceptional people with diverse backgrounds and experiences with a passion for making the energy transition a reality. It is important to us that all employees uphold Guidehouse's values of respect, integrity, innovation, stewardship, and excellence and are supportive of our culture of inclusion & diversity. What You Will Do As a Senior Consultant at Guidehouse you will be working in a team advising our clients on how they can best navigate the challenges and opportunities associated with the energy transition. Projects may cover the role of hydrogen, biofuels and carbon capture and storage in the future energy system to enable decarbonisation pathways for transport, industry and heat, electricity network innovation, flexibility markets, net-zero business model opportunities, regional whole system solutions across electricity and gas, network asset management, and offshore grid development. This is an opportunity for you to build on your experience with gas or power topics and deepen your expertise in one of these areas, while also developing your engagement and stakeholder management skills to support your onward progression into a manager role. Typically, your role will involve:

  • Perform industry research, engage internal and external stakeholders, prepare client deliverables, and present findings to your project team and clients.
  • Synthesising data into clear analyses and provide fact-based recommendations and solutions for drafting summary reports and presentations.
  • Supporting the development of plans to implement the recommendations and solutions proposed.
  • Supporting the development of client proposals and other business development activities.
  • Work side by side with our Sustainability and Public Sector teams to develop cross-vector solutions targeting the energy transition.

A team-player who demonstrates the willingness and ability to work effectively in diverse teams collaborating with colleagues at all levels.
  • A critical thinker with a strong eye for detail and creative in problem solving.
  • Able to show a working knowledge of data collection, organisational and analytical skills.
  • Able to work on multiple projects and show a good understanding of the project objectives and client expectations.
  • A strong communicator with excellent written and presentation skills.
  • Passionate about the energy transition, innovation, and personal development.
  • What You Will Need
  • Relevant undergraduate degree (e.g., engineering, energy, economics, mathematics, physical sciences etc.).
  • 3 - 5 years of working experience in related field demonstrating breadth and depth of knowledge across areas such as: working knowledge of the GB energy market, and how policy and regulatory change would impact this; how gas systems work, the role of gas shippers, gas networks, off-takers and suppliers; power systems, renewable energy integration, flexibility markets, electricity transmission & distribution planning and operations, sustainability, and/or advanced energy technologies.
  • Fluent English language (written and spoken).
  • Flexibility to work with Guidehouse colleagues and/or client teams in Guidehouse UK office, and other UK locations as needed.
  • Right to work in the UK e.g., UK Passport, pre-settled status or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, or valid working Visa.
  • This position requires successful completion of a background check and employment verification.
  • What Would Be Nice To Have:
  • Relevant Master's degree (e.g., engineering, energy, economics, mathematics, physical sciences, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel internationally.

Guidehouse offers a comprehensive, total rewards package that includes competitive compensation and a flexible benefits package that reflects our commitment to creating a diverse and supportive workplace.
