Full Job Description

Reporting into the Deputy Tax Director, you will manage risk associated with customs obligations, and minimise compliance costs. There is also the opportunity to be involved in wider governance, controls, and automation projects across the tax process. This a crucial position where you must be aware of the evolving government policy following the UK's departure from the EU Customs Union.

You will also

  • Lead the management of Royal Mail's overall governance framework for all the group's postal and commercial Customs issues.

  • Manage the relationship with HMRC on all Customs tax matters and liaise with key customs operational stakeholders to manage, investigate, and respond as appropriate.

  • Provide support and advice to the GLS Tax team to help develop a suitable approach to Group Tax.

  • Provide technical support and advice to the International Team on a variety of projects (including IT systems, CDS and NI Protocol).

  • Provide updates and feedback to senior leadership team, providing sight of issues and opportunities in a timely manner.

  • Determine Customs treatment of new products and income streams and ensure treated correctly within financial accounting systems.

  • Strong technical Customs ability with a focus on Compliance and Controls.

  • Ideally at least five years Customs experience either in practice, HMRC or an in-house environment.

  • Numerate and strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to drive change across processes, systems, and people.

  • Ability to effectively contribute to negotiations with tax authorities and other lobbying groups on complex issues to achieve a positive outcome for the group.

  • IT literate - with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and preferably SAP.

    This is a Hybrid working role with a requirement to attend our London Farringdon office and Chesterfield Office for team meeting with flexibility required to visit other Royal Mail Locations in line with business needs.
