Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Data Analyst & Administrator to join the Oxford Molecular Diagnostics Centre (OMDC) for a one-year maternity cover role. You will play a key part in running and managing high-throughput sequencing analysis pipelines, as well as further developing the infrastructure to support those activities within the OMDC. OMDC is a fully accredited laboratory, closely collaborating with the NHS Oxford University Hospitals and the wider University of Oxford cancer research community. In this role, you will work on the analysis of next-generation sequencing data, focusing on targeted, exome, and whole genome sequencing from various platforms. You will be required to develop the OMDC's AWS environment, ensuring its functionality for the OMDC's projects and its compliance to relevant regulation (HIPAA / GDPR). Additionally, you will contribute to the development of database and software projects at all stages of their lifecycle. The post holder will be managed by the Laboratory Lead of the Oxford Molecular Diagnostics Centre & Strategic Data Platform Development Lead. The post will be based across two locations: the Oxford Molecular Diagnostics Centre (OMDC), John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford, OX3 9DU and the Cancer Centre, Churchill Hospital, Oxford, OX3 7LJ.

You will have a postgraduate qualification with a significant computer science/bioinformatics component or a degree and professional experience of large-scale IT enterprise solutions. You will be proficient in R, Python, shell scripting, and have experience with database utilisation (ideally MySQL). Ideally, you would have experience with cloud environment, such as AWS. The role also requires strong analytical skills, independent approach to problem solving in a constantly changing environment. Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) are essential as well as the ability to work unsupervised and contribute as an effective member of the team to deliver team oriented goals.
