Full Job Description
You and your team of data engineers will steer the creation and maintenance of analytics dashboards to monitor and evaluate the performance of services against an ITIL measurement framework. You will be playing an important role in developing prototypes and other data models to demonstrate the art of possible in data visualisation.
You will be instrumental in joining up our key projects, technical teams and stakeholders - there will be lots of opportunities to interact across teams with colleagues at all levels. Your role will be to collaborate with people to get the best out of their technologies and strive for continuous improvement.
You will also lead the creation of a new strategy to help DWP move from traditional reporting to real-time data provision, helping to fix services before they fail. This will provide an opportunity to be creative and innovative, potentially bringing in new tooling ideas, data items and ways of working to bring data to life. The new strategy will also set the future direction for our build teams and allow us to think differently about data.
As the Senior Data Engineer, you will manage the development team, setting clear objectives and delivery standards, line managing, as well as developing the team in new and emerging tools, technology and requirements. You will explore new ideas and support your team in developing both their technical and interpersonal skills. You will also provide technical leadership along with oversight on the products they develop, the quality of the development and the data integrity.
Do you enjoy bringing data to life? Does data visualisation interest you? Would you enjoy steering a new real-time data strategy?
DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support the most vulnerable people in our society.
DWP Digital creates digital services that almost everyone in the UK relies on at some point in their lives. Join us as a Senior Data Engineer and directly deliver benefits to millions of UK citizens.
If you have Splunk or Power BI build and development experience, are passionate about data visualisation and have ideas on how we can make the shift from reporting to preventative data, we'd love to hear from you.
You will join the Service Performance team that monitors the entire suite of DWP's digital services - a grand total of 700 software applications and systems. We use Splunk, ServiceNow and Power BI tooling to bring data together and develop quality dashboards which are relied upon and widely used by service managers and monitoring teams.
