Are you looking for a leadership role where you can use data science to influence, innovate and inspire improvements?

Can you use DWP's data to improve the customer journey and outcomes for millions of people?

Digital with Purpose.

DWP Digital is looking for a Senior Data Scientist with excellent leadership skills to coach and guide a team of talented Data Scientists. You'll be creating cutting-edge, data-driven solutions that will help millions of DWP users with health conditions and disabilities.

DWP services cover everything from paying pensions and helping children & families, to helping people find work and supporting relatives of lost loved ones.

The scale of what we do is outstanding, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

You and your role:

If you have used a variety of programming languages or data science techniques to harness the power of data and think that data science can transform how government services work, we'd love to hear from you.

You'll work with huge datasets and apply data science to drive critical public service transformation. You'll use data to influence choices on issues that affect millions of UK citizens.

You'll join a close-knit team at the heart of one DWP's highest priority transformation projects - the Health Transformation Programme.

  • Our Data Scientists work closely with multidisciplinary development teams to design and deliver new features for the PIP and Health Assessment services.

  • We use our expertise in datasets and data science techniques to ensure any development is supported by data, helping to improve outcomes for claimants and DWP colleagues.

  • You will collaborate with colleagues from a range of different digital professions to promote the use of data.

  • Your primary stakeholders will include the Design & Build and Strategy teams that support the Health Transformation programme.

  • Essential criteria:
  • Academic background in Data Science, Maths, Statistics or Computer Science

  • Significant experience delivering innovative, data-driven solutions and applying a range of data science techniques to solve business problems or improve processes

  • Ability to explore, combine and transform data from across disparate sources, writing code in R, Python or SQL that is testable and scalable

  • Experience of building team capability through role modelling, mentoring and coaching

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and experience working with colleagues to understand their requirements and deliver complex analytical projects

  • Ability to communicate results to a range of audiences, translating technical concepts into non-technical language where necessary

  • You find opportunities to use Data Science to contribute to team or wider organisational priorities.
