Full Job Description
The Senior Design Manager will provide technical leadership and management of Designers and Design Houses for a portfolio of individual projects covering; Wastewater (Infrastructure and Non-Infrastructure) and Biosolids throughout all Design Stages from ECI at Feasibility through Outline, Detail Design, to supporting the Construction Delivery team and Handover of projects. The Senior Design Manager will form an integral part of the Wessex Water (WW) Framework Delivery Team and will use their technical expertise and experience to ensure that the most cost beneficial and sustainable solutions are promoted through the Wessex Water Investment Decision Points (IDPs). They will work collaboratively with the Morgan Sindall Construction team and with their respective Client team leads and Design House leads to ensure clarity of scope and stakeholder acceptance of solutions. They will ensure promotion of best practice, continuous improvement, consistency and efficiency throughout the design and delivery process
This role would suit an ambitious, driven individual who embraces the challenge of working within a high performing and supportive team. Experience within the civil engineering industry is essential for this role, ideally coming from a main contractor background.,
- Be computer literate, MS Office and MS Sharepoint experience essential
- Give attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, but also manage teams, both office and home based
- Have good communication and inter-personal skills
- Take pride in producing high quality outputs
- Have a full driving license
- Extensive experience of water/wastewater engineering, including in project lead roles.
- Able to provide direction and motivation at outline and detail design stage to a diverse team.
- Able to communicate and work effectively with people from other partner organisations, backgrounds and disciplines, utilising their knowledge and experience to best effect.
- Experience of technical design leadership ensuring that work is undertaken to the correct Standards and Specifications, following the appropriate Systems of Work and Quality Assurance procedures.
- Experience of project management.
- Experience of sustainability in design, particularly reducing the embodied and operational Carbon Footprint.
- A demonstrable track record of promoting and driving innovation to produce optimal engineering solutions at lowest whole life costs.
- Good people management skills, ensuring that the best talent is used to meet the resource demands for the projected workload.
