Full Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Design Manager to join our Building team based in Cambridge, to work on a large scale commercial project to manage the design process, design team and trade contractor design on a project, from PCSA stage and the ongoing management of all design related issues through to project completion and handover. Established in the UK in 2000, Skanska has more than 3,300 local experts delivering projects across sectors including real estate, defence, education, highways, rail and water. Our Building team have created inspiring places to work including Norton Folgate in London and Unity Place in Swindon. This is a key role in managing the delivery of design in accordance with the design management plan and design brief, including client requirements, cost, programme, best practice design standards, design responsibilities, BIM strategy and contract agreement. What you'll do:

  • Assist in appointment of design team and management of design team contracts to cost, time, quality & safety requirements.
  • Manage the creation of the project design management plan and ensure all members of the design team are aware of their responsibilities
  • Manage the production and co-ordination of the design programme, Employers Requirements and design deliverables schedule throughout the project
  • Chair Design team meetings and other design orientated meetings
  • Ensure clear record keeping and monitoring of design process/programme/deliverables
  • Comment and approve design information through the project CDE (e.g. Asite)
  • Ensure the design complies with Client brief, contract, current legislation, town planning, building regulations, CDM and relevant technical requirements
  • Ensure that all responsibilities under CDM regulations are maintained by the project and design teams
  • Lead buildability and value engineering reviews
  • Ensure BIM Execution Plan & CAD protocol are maintained
  • Ensure contractors proposals are compliant with employer's requirements
  • Ensure any design derogations are included in the contract
  • Monitor and report on design progress on a weekly and monthly basis, including taking action to maintain design delivery to time, cost, quality and safety requirements.

    Demonstratable experience of delivering Commercial projects working through bid, PCSA and delivery stages, and successfully converting and delivering on quality, time and to budget.
  • Demonstrable experience of varied forms of contract including NEC3 & 4, and JCT.
  • Professional architectural or engineering qualification.
  • Extensive experience of design delivery - building, civil engineering & MEP installations
  • Experience in delivering design across whole project lifecycle (bidding, pre-construction and construction phases)
  • Experienced in use of digital technologies to deliver design (e.g. CDE, BIM and design co-ordination software) and experience of delivering to the ISO19650 Information Management standard.
  • Experience and working knowledge in use of CDM Regulations and the Principal Designer duties.
  • Experienced in use of sustainability tools (e.g. BREEAM)
