Full Job Description

  • Leadership & Mentorship Help lead and mentor junior ecologists, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality deliverables.

  • Advanced Ecological Surveys: Conduct and oversee a variety of complex field surveys, providing expert guidance and ensuring adherence to project timelines.

  • Strategic Project Management: Manage a portfolio of projects, from large-scale developments to intricate mitigation strategies, ensuring successful delivery and client satisfaction.

  • Client Relations: Cultivate strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs, and providing bespoke ecological solutions that exceed expectations.

  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure all projects comply with current legislation and best practice guidelines, producing detailed reports that support planning applications and development projects.

  • Team Collaboration: Engage with the broader SES team, promoting collaboration and maintaining the high standards that SES is known for.

    Relevant Degree: Hold a degree in ecology or a related field, or possess significant experience within a professional ecological consultancy.

  • Chartership: Hold membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).

  • Proven Experience: Demonstrate a successful track record in managing multiple or complex projects, and delivering high-quality ecological surveys.

  • Ecological Expertise: Have an in-depth understanding of ecology, legislation, and advanced survey techniques, with a focus on protected species and habitat management.

  • Botanical & Habitat Skills: Possess enhanced botanical identification and habitat assessment skills, with the ability to assist and develop complex ecological surveys.

  • Strategic Planning Knowledge: Have a thorough understanding of the application of relevant planning policies and their implications for development projects.

  • Licensing Proficiency: Be experienced in navigating protected species licensing processes and advising clients on mitigation strategies.

    SES has a team of 52 qualified ecologists, landscape architects, arboriculturists and coordination and support staff. Currently, we're working with Barratt Homes and the RSPB on a large residential housing development, Kingsbrook, a case study in the biodiversity net gain best practice principles for development. Our ecological work includes due diligence reporting, land appraisals, habitat design and creation, protected species surveys and ecological impact assessments. Landscape design and planning services teams specialise in strategic projects, combining an innovative and context-led approach to design.
