Full Job Description

We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Transportation team based in Birmingham. Within this role, you can enjoy a fantastic, matched pension scheme, 24/7 virtual GP service for you and your family, a competitive annual holiday entitlement, with opportunities to buy/sell leave and even more., As a Senior Engineer, you'll be working within the Engineering team, supporting them in leading a team managing highway structures as part of the Birmingham highways interim services contract being delivered by Kier. Your day to day will include:

  • Leading the Highway Structures Team of engineers and technicians responsible for the maintenance of all highway structures on the Birmingham network, manage inventory and condition data for highway structures using the 'Confirm' asset management system
  • Managing the inspection of structures including principal, general and special inspections using in-house and external resources, leading on structural reviews and structural assessments, looking after the development and delivery of major schemes for the repair or strengthening of bridges, advising the client organisations (Birmingham Highways Ltd / Birmingham city council) on future work programmes and priorities
  • Providing advice to operational teams on the repair of defects associated with structures, collaborating with designers, commercial teams, contractors and delivery teams as necessary
  • Reviewing risk assessments and method statements in accordance with company standards, undertaking asset valuation and lifecycle planning, analysing and providing reports
  • Performing people management duties for direct reports including development, mentoring and supervision, monitoring and reporting progress on activities the team are completing, meeting performance targets, goals and objectives

    Chartered civil or structural engineer, or approaching chartered status and a degree or qualification in a civil engineering specialism, with extensive experience in the design and management of highway structures including assessment and inspection
  • Experience of managing a technical team, good knowledge of the relevant CS codes of practice, experience in using asset management Ssstems (such as Confirm)
  • A full driving licence
