Full Job Description

  • Working with state-of-the-art automated robotic welding equipment fitted with advanced laser scanning systems and optical control you will be responsible for performing fault analysis, corrective actions, programme modification, system updates and configuration management
  • Identify opportunities for the adoption of robotic and automated technologies within the current and future production environment, specify requirements, develop the capability and introduce and implement solutions
  • Preparation and transmittal of process documentation and procedures to production areas. Support Welding Engineering colleagues with PQR development, testing and formal approval of welding procedure specifications to support process improvements within the production environment
  • Investigate and review emerging process technology and consumables for applicability to submarine construction
  • Conduct routine process audits within production areas to investigate defect trends and facilitate improvement

    Extensive experience with ABB IRC5 robotic systems (ideally welding) including programming, fault finding and rectification, use of optical sensors for searching and joint tracking systems, PLC HDMI interface and Robot Studio offline programming. Experience of working with other industrial robotics systems will be considered
  • Qualified to BSc/BEng level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of the main welding processes typically used for structural and piping applications within a heavy engineering environment would be advantageous
  • Ability to assimilate and process data from a range of sources and work independently or as part of a team as required
