Formedin December 2013 CHoICE is the subsidiary company of South Tyneside andSunderland NHS Foundation Trust. Working in partnership with the Trust, CHoICEprovides a Managed Health Care Facility to the Trust, to facilitate patientcare., CHoICE currentlydelivers services across several premises within South Tyneside and Sunderland.Very much One Team, but geographically based to provide responsive services,we have a vacancy for a Senior Estates Officer (Mechanical Ops &Maintenance), South Tyneside based. The successful applicant will lead andensure compliance of the mechanical section of the Hard FM team, a team ofaround 10 employees which is motivated and experienced, and this role offers anexciting opportunity for development and a range of experience. TheEstates team provide a co-ordinated approach in delivering services in-linewith all our Statutory requirements and Key Performance Indicators, by whichCHoICE's effectiveness is measured and monitored. The workload is varied,challenging and rewarding in equal measures. Health Care premises have complexBuilding Services, which are managed and maintained to extremely highstandards, in order to deliver a suitable facility for providing health care,to those same exacting high standards. The satisfaction of supporting healthcare delivery cannot be understated. Main duties of the job AsSenior Estates Officer (Mechanical), you will be required to lead the in-housemechanical team and specialist contractors. The service provides reactive,planned maintenance & contract works in a busy acute hospital setting. Thepositions objectives are to ensure that all maintenance works are providedwithin pre-designated times & costs and provide technical input, to ensurecompliance with all statutory regulations and legislation. You willbe responsible for ensuring acceptable standards of quality, productivity andworkmanship of work is maintained. Tomanage and arrange shutdowns, connections and adaptations to hospital serviceswhich facilitate progress on major capital and minor work schemes of a morecomplex work content. Carrying out estimates for works and working withindefined budgets. You will be based at South Tyneside District Hospital, although they will berequired to work at other properties owned or maintained by the Trust asrequired. The postholder will be educated Educatedto degree level or equivalent in a Building Services related subject and have aminimum of 3 years experience in a similar role or working towards degreelevel or equivalent in relevant field with relevant experience. You will participate in the emergency on call rota asrequired. As per HTM compliance the applicantwill be an Authorised Person, in several areas, which offers opportunities fortraining, development and gaining valuable experience., The role will require thepost holder to undertake the role of Authorised Person (AP) as defined withinHealth Technical Memorandum (HTM) 00 for multiple engineer services. Theresponsibility will provide the post holder with key operationalresponsibilities for ensuring that appropriate engineering services aremaintained to current statutory, mandatory and best practice requirements. The role will alsorequire the individual to have substantial management skills and experience toensure that external contractors and directly employed labour are managed inthe most efficient manner. Furthermore, the role will also require theparticipation in the current CFS shift pattern / system, current on-call rota andundertake overtime when the service needs dictate for which appropriatepayments will be made.

  • Educated to degree level qualification or equivalent in relevant field,
  • OR working towards degree level qualification or equivalent in relevant field supplemented with relevant experience
  • Specialist knowledge of mechanical electrical systems acquired through specialist courses and CPD
  • Basic Numeracy & Literacy Skills to Level 1 or equivalent
  • Desirable
  • Membership of a professional body
  • Registered with the Engineering Council UK
  • Management Qualification / Training, Undertake moderate moving and handling activities with the ability Requirement for physical dexterity, hand and eye co-ordination
  • Perform testing and asset condition surveys using a range of technical and non-technical devices and instruments
  • to sit at workstations for a prolonged period of time then adapt to undertake site surveys or respond to emergency situations
  • May be required to travel, work and manage at all of CFS managed sites
  • Experience Essential
  • Significant post apprenticeship / graduation mechanical experience
  • Significant mechanical experience of systems typically found within a large Acute NHS Trust
  • Experience of undertaking an engineering management role within a large acute hospital or similar industry
  • Desirable Experience of undertaking a similar role within an NHS environment Skills and Knowledge Essential
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and targets using own initiative where necessary and manage more than one project simultaneously whilst balancing conflicting demands
  • Good IT skills
  • Effective staff management and leadership skills with the ability to motivate, encourage and lead a team from diverse profession disciplines
  • Good communication skills with the ability to use appropriate techniques to a range of differing audiences
  • Flexible in and out of working hours to meet the service needs
  • Able to participate in out of hours on call arrangement as per the agreed Rota
