An opportunity to join a vibrant Estate, Farm and Farm Business team supporting the Summerdown Farm Partnership. This role will be focused on the managing the accounts and supporting the Arable Farm Manager. For the right candidate, there is an opportunity to be involved in the broader business operations. Proven experience with Xero, or an equivalent accounts package, and Gatekeeper (or equivalent) is essential, and experience of crop plans and day to day administration of an Arable farm business.


The Role involves working with an innovative arable farm alongside the Estate's forestry and residential letting business and a consumer facing luxury brand.

Job Description

Overview of the role

  • Managing the books of accounts and Payroll for the Farm and Farm Business
  • Supporting the Arable Farm Manager and arable farm team
  • Assisting the Arable Farm Manager with the implementation of policies, crop plans and day-to-day administration for the effective management of the farm

Key Responsibilities

Responsibility for the Farm and Brand books of account (Sales and Purchases ledger and assets register), and VAT returns. Taking the books to trial balance (where they are handed to accountants to prepare year end accounts) all on Xero.

Responsibility for Farm, Brand and Estate Payroll.


Working with the Arable Farm Manager to monitor and report on:-

  • Budget against actual for cereals production
  • Rotation of crops with reference to Arable and Rosie O'Driscoll on Essential Oils
  • Progress of Grant Applications
  • Working with the Arable Farm Manager on arable farm operations;
  • Supporting marketing and sales of all grain produced and straw, records for sale contracts and keeping track of what has been sold and is left to sell
  • Liaising with Farm staff to ensure efficient haulage for all goods in and out
  • Supporting the Arable Farm Manager on day to day tasking of the arable team implementing the action plan and checking on progress

Reporting to the Arable Farm Manager for:-

  • Keeping of all cereal crop records on Gatekeeper or equivalent
  • Keeping all records of Farm Purchases
  • Cereal seed
  • Arranging for own seed to be treated
  • All cereal and Essential Oils inputs, pesticides and fertiliser
  • Fuels, oils, adblue etc
  • Replacement parts for arable machinery and keeping of stock lists
  • Organising machinery maintenance programs
  • Arranging for machinery inspections as required
  • Responsibility for Insurance, MOT and Vehicle tax for and all farm and estate vehicles. Organising machinery maintenance programs and arranging for machinery inspections as required.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
