Full Job Description

The appointment will be a Trust Appointment designated as Clinical Fellow for a period of 6 months and subject to a successful appraisal will be renewable for a further 6 months., The successful candidate will participate closely in all activities within the Directorate of Cardiothoracic surgery being directly accountable to the consultant staff. Roles will include participation in the pre-, intra- and post-operative management of patients under consultant supervision. In addition, active participation in the academic program is seen as an important opportunity for personal development. Audit and service evaluation projects will be expected to be undertaken.
Assistance in theatre with consultant supervised operative training appropriate to level of experience.
To provide assistance to both consultant anaesthetists and surgeons in the post-operative management of patients.
To participate in both the pre and post-operative management of patients on the wards under the direction of the appropriate Consultant Surgeon.
The successful candidate will participate in the academic program, assisting both with presentations within the division as well as contributing to training initiatives across the division. Time will be allowed to pursue individual research or training initiatives.

The successful candidates will participate in the same rota as the eight other higher surgical trainees (national and non-national), and enjoy similar training opportunities. The unit undertakes over 1100 cardiac operations and more than 700 thoracic operations per year. The unit specialises in minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic surgery, including robotic-assisted., It is now the policy of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who are new to the Trust who require DBS clearance for the post they have been offered, are required to pay the cost of their DBS. The method of payment for this is via salary deduction from your first month's pay.
