Full Job Description

The post-holder will work primarily on the Surgical Emergency Unit (SEU) and in the Emergency General Surgery Theatres on a shift system to provide senior input to general surgical emergency and major abdominal trauma patients, both on the SEU and in the Accident and Emergency Department.

The post-holder will be required to participate in, and lead, programmes for teaching medical students, training junior doctors and in the facilitation of clinical examinations.

Active participation in weekly academic meetings, lectures and journal clubs will be actively encouraged.

The unit is actively involved in local, regional and national research programmes where it takes the lead in many areas. There will be extensive opportunities to be involved in research and audit with the likelihood of publication. The successful applicant will be expected to be involved in the organisation of the Annual Oxford Emergency General Surgery Conference and to fully participate in the Oxford Surgical Collaborative meetings.

The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust.

A full time post as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Surgery is available at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post will be for a term of 1 year, with the option of extension for a further 1 year, subject to agreement.
