Full Job Description

The FBP role will be integral to supporting the organisation through operating model change, bringing a new perspective and helping to meet the challenges of our new price control agreement.

We have sites and members of our finance team across our regions, with Exec and Finance presence concentrated in the Bristol area. We'd hope to see you in one of our sites at 2-3 days each week and you're welcome to be in the office or at site more often if that would work best for you. We're happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You'll Do

  • Partner the NGED Operations Director (Major Projects) in the delivery of strategic objectives:

  • + Challenge and support the effective delivery of a c£200m annual capital programme, ensuring robust plans are in place to deliver the targets.
    + Support & influence the efficient management of operational costs of c£70m.
    + Lead the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes to drive performance for Major Projects, delivering outputs in line with wider NGED requirements.
    + Support the Operations leadership (Major Projects) driving a c500 person workforce.
  • Own and deliver relevant management information and analysis to support decision making.

  • Collaborate with the Operations Director to drive operational and financial performance across the 4 licence areas of the Major Projects business unit.

  • Strategic Business Plan owner for Primary Reinforcement, as part of the overall NGED Strategic BP.

  • Develop & implement financial strategies to enhance operational efficiency & cost effectiveness allowing the outperformance of regulatory allowances.

  • Shape the definition of key drivers which create value and the KPIs which measure value; and ensure these are used to inform performance management, decision making and planning for the future.

  • Support the implementation of continuous improvement and performance excellence activities, consistently achieving strong results.

  • Support the delivery of the financial response to rate case outcomes and maximise future allowances for ongoing investment in infrastructure and services.

  • Act as the finance lead on investment appraisal process for Major Projects, guiding decision making with insight and optimisation opportunities, to ensure that all current and future investments are made in line with the business strategy and value requirements.

  • Play an active role in developing and maintaining a cohesive team across Finance and the Business including contribution to the successful implementation of Finance strategic priorities, to create & embed a high performing Community.

    ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified, with extensive post qualification experience.

  • Proven track record of Finance Business Partnering, ideally within a similar industry.

  • Extensive experience overseeing the financial position of a business unit, working with director level to set strategy and deliver against a medium-term plan.

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to influence and impact the decisions and financial performance of senior stakeholders and their teams throughout the relevant business unit.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.

  • Strategic thinker with a focus on achieving operational and financial excellence. Able to join the dots between long term strategy and financial performance, whilst dealing with ambiguity.

  • Proven ability to adapt style of financial information presentation to suit a range of stakeholders, both financial and non-financial.

  • Planning, forecasting and budgeting expert.

  • Strong understanding of how value is generated and of operating within a regulated business environment.
