Full Job Description

The Department of Oncology is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as a Senior Grants Officer. In this pivotal role, you will report to the Grants Manager and take responsibility for managing research grants from initial costing through to final reporting for a portfolio of research groups. You will ensure that grants are administered in full compliance with funder terms and conditions. You will work closely with senior academics, external funders, and internal teams, including Finance, HR, and wider administrative staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. As part of your role, you will stay updated on University policies and procedures, maintain strong relationships with Research Services, Research Accounts, and other academic departments, and contribute to the smooth and efficient management of the department's grant activities. This is a full-time position offered on a fixed-term basis for 3 years in the first instance. The role is based at the Radiobiology Research Institute, Churchill Hospital, Oxford, OX3 7LE.

We are looking for a highly organised and numerate individual with a strong background in finance and research grant management, ideally within a complex organisation. You will bring proven experience in using large computerised accounting systems and advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and v-lookups or x-lookups, enabling you to handle complex data sets with accuracy and attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this role, as you will be required to explain policy and administrative information clearly and accurately, both in writing and verbally, to a variety of stakeholders. Your ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, coupled with a flexible and proactive problem-solving approach, will ensure your success in this demanding position. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to handle sensitive information with respect and discretion while keeping abreast of sponsor terms and conditions and disseminating relevant updates to the team and stakeholders. Familiarity with Oracle Financials and the X5 costing tool, as well as an understanding of full economic costing principles and experience with student finance, would be advantageous but not essential.

  • A comprehensive range of childcare services

  • Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
  • Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs
