Full Job Description

Our Orthopaedic Pre assessment department has an opportunity for a healthcare assistant to join our friendly team

Our team is a plays crucial part of the preparation for elective planned procedures.

We are looking for someone who will thrive in a role that requires genuine autonomy and the chance to work as part of a continually changing environment. You need to be confident and a motivated person who enjoys a fast pace environment, be able to demonstrate good communication skills (both written and verbal) and show initiative in a challenging and interesting environment.

To work as an integral part of the Multi-disciplinary team, providing a high standard of patient centred care, meeting the needs of patients, consultants and colleagues.

You must hold Level 3 in healthcare / NVQ level 3

As part of the role you will assist the nurses with everyday tasks.

Conduct face to face assessments with patients coming in for surgery and be involved in taking Urine sample, ECG's, blood test and MRSA screening

Supporting nurses and anaesthetists with the administration of results and recording specific information.

Undertake clinical duties relevant to the clinical area following achievement of competencies

  • Monitor and record patient's vital signs, reporting and escalating findings in a timely manner and record on Quadramed system.

  • Able to perform ECG and bloods

  • Document using the Trust's IT system quadramed any investigations taken ie ECG, bloods, MRSA screen and urine specimen.

  • Recognises the signs of an unwell patient and reports escalates in a timely manner

  • Has achieved and maintained up to date competency in ABLS.

  • Assists the qualified staff in setting up for clinical procedures maintaining the sterile field and working within infection control policies and procedures.
