Senior Healthcare Support Worker, Day Surgery

The Day Surgery Unit consists of an admission area, ward bays, Operating Theatres and treatment rooms which are used for a range of surgical specialties, including General, Vascular, Urology, Orthopaedic/Trauma, Oral, ENT and Gynaecology, as well as Pain Management Treatment.
As a team member, you will have a range of learning opportunities available with our in-house training. Starting with a rotation throughout different areas of the department, where you will develop your competencies within each area.
Informal visits to the unit are welcome so you can come and meet us and see the way that our care is delivered., The successful candidate will work as part of a team to provide a safe, effective, efficient care environment for patients, relatives and carers. You will be expected to function clinically within the ward from admission through to discharge.
You will carry out tasks as delegated by the Team Leader and guided by the DSU Competency Pack., Working as a Senior Healthcare Support Worker in the Day Surgery Unit. Within the hospital setting, you will be carrying out assigned tasks involving direct patient care, whilst maintaining privacy and dignity of each patient. This will be whilst demonstrating excellent care, compassion and communication, and in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse/Midwife or Nursing Associate, incorporating:
+ Admitting patients and preparing patients to Theatre lists
+ Discharging the Local anaesthetic patients once competent
+ Moving & Handling of patients to support independence
+ Infection Prevention and Control
+ Safeguarding of adults and children.
+ Reporting Incidents
+ Taking and recording vital signs or other parameters such as height/weight
+ Cannulating or blood taking, removing cannulas, taking specimens/samples of any kind, simple dressings
+ ECGs or setting up cardiac monitoring
+ Deal with oxygen administration in any capacity
+ Any other tasks you are trained and competent in
