Full Job Description

  • The role sits within the Engineering team in on the M25 DBFO undertaking a variety of Highway renewal designs and supporting the review of new standard for contract change. Working in a small multidisciplinary highway team.

  • The position involves working on one of Europe's busiest and most strategically important road networks. As such, this scheme requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work together and coordinate with different teams effectively., The role is responsible for developing, reviewing, and refining design packages consisting of drawings and works specification for various renewal schemes including (but not limited to) drainage, signage, fencing and VRS. This will be aligned with asset management and client requirements.

  • You will support the change in standard team reviewing new standards to assess potential impacts and support the Change in Standards process.

  • You will be responsible for preparing documentation to discharge the duties of the CDM 2015 Principal Designer.

  • You will be responsible for applying quality management processes and manage the quality of outputs, including adherence to standards and process compliance with the M25 DBFO Contract.

  • You will be working directly with the technical specialist and commercial leads in the Engineering and other CPS teams to achieve agreed programmes and key milestones.

  • Responsible for building strong relationships in a cross-functional collaborative team.

  • Responsible for providing progress updates, programme management and reporting of assigned work.

  • Accountable for the scheduling and chairing of performance, technical and commercial review meetings.

  • Responsible for providing information to the commercial team to enable them to produce cost estimates.

  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of the Change in Standards process.

  • Responsible and accountable for reviewing new standards and liaising with National Highways on the CPS response to implementation.

  • Working arrangements (shift work, need for travel etc)

  • Ability and willingness to travel to other offices and depots on the network as and when required.

  • Full Driving License preferred, but not essential.

  • Remote working opportunities.

    Broad knowledge of Design, Manual of Roads and Bridges (DMRB), The Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) and other highways standards.

  • Experience of delivering highway design.

  • Understanding of risk management principles.

  • Minimum BEng / MEng (or equivalent) in a civil engineering or other construction-based discipline.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience:
  • Experience at an intermediate level in the design, delivery, or asset management of highways construction & maintenance operations or similar transferable experience.

  • Experience of coordinating interfaces with internal/external technical and commercial teams and external resources.

  • Experience of managing projects through complete lifecycle.
