Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the City Council's Sustainable Communities Directorate to provide maternity cover for an important role within our Garden Communities team to oversee negotiations on planning applications to ensure the delivery of the right mix of all sizes, types and tenures of housing e.g. market, affordable and specialist. Achieving the right mix of housing will be critical to the success of the garden community by creating inclusive and balanced communities meeting both local housing need and wider demand.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of a dealing with a wide range of housing and planning work including development work and analysing housing need, solutions and community stewardship roles. CGC will be a high-quality exemplar development and this role is within a new multi-disciplinary team of planners and other built environment professionals.

Educated with a relevant degree in housing, planning or related discipline with membership, or eligibility to be a member of relevant professional body such the Chartered Institute of Housing or Royal Town Planning Institute is desirable. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility and the ability to analysing housing and associated infrastructure needs and solutions, as well as implementation of development parcels.

The post is full-time, working 37 hours a week with a current flexible hybrid approach of 2 days in the office in Chelmsford and 3 days working remotely.
