We are home to one of the most successful groups of consultants in the fields of renewables, industry, offshore, coasts, rivers, ports and other inland developments. Our group within the wider company is around 200 people strong and growing and is based in 10 offices in the UK (Brighton, Leeds, Newcastle, Peterborough, London, Edinburgh, Exeter, Manchester, Birmingham & Liverpool). We work closely with other groups in the UK, such as Maritime, Mobility & Infrastructure and Industry & Buildings, as well as our overseas teams, to deliver collaborative multi-disciplinary projects for our clients. By integrating our deep domain experience, technology, and specialist partners, and working with our clients, we deliver solutions that are smart and robust - from optimising and refurbishing existing assets or creating new in sustainable ways that enhance society.The Role: We require a Senior Hydraulic Modeller to join our team, for the delivery of hydraulic modelling projects, for varying clients such as the Environment Agency, IDBs, LLFAs, infrastructure developers and renewable energy companies. As a key member of our flood risk and hydraulic modelling team you will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects including both urban and rural flood risk, nature-based solutions, hydrology and hydro-geomorphology. You will share our passion for Enhancing Society Together by collaborating with our clients to achieve their outcomes whilst also maximising the opportunities for sustainable solutions.Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hydraulic Modelling Expertise:
  • + Proven track record in 1D and 2D fluvial hydraulic modelling using Flood Modeller, TUFLOW and ESTRY. + Competent in modelling river and flood defence (/ other fluvial) structures (culverts, weirs, fish passes etc.) as well as natural flood management options. + Proficient in the development of surface water focused hydraulic modelling. + In addition, experience in MIKE21-SW, HEC-RAS and coastal modelling would be preferred. + Capable of developing and providing specialist modelling input to flood risk assessments with a strong understanding of UK flood risk policies (across England, Wales and Scotland).
  • GIS Proficiency: Skilled in GIS applications, including QGIS, ArcGIS and other open-source datasets / tools.
  • Hydrology: A good understanding of hydrological analysis including FEH, ReFH2, WINFAP and other hydrological methods, within the context of their application to modelling projects.
  • Technical Reporting Skills: You should have the ability to write clearly and concisely, summarising technical concepts for a wide range of audiences such as the Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities, Clients and the Public.
  • Project Management: Involved in preparing project proposals, managing resources, subcontractors, contracts and invoicing. Act as a project lead for smaller and less complex projects (including understanding contract and cost implications to successfully deliver the project).
  • Quality Assurance: Knowledge and experience in contributing to and maintaining high quality deliverables as well as application of best practice within the team and identifying innovative approaches.
  • Collaboration: We require a strong team player who values independent thinking, who is capable of communicating effectively with other consultants and disciplines to deliver comprehensive and sustainable design solutions.
  • Client Relations: Build and maintain relationships with clients, ensuring effective communication and liaison with Project Manager, Project Director and the Principal Modeller(s).
  • Mentoring: Provide support to graduate and junior hydraulic modelling staff leading by example to ensure quality and innovation in approach.
  • Flexibility: Perform additional duties as required by management.
  • Qualifications and Experience: Essential:
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate analytical subject (e.g. Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Geography)
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in hydraulic modelling
  • Proven experience in both fluvial hydraulic and surface water flood modelling.
  • Proven GIS experience in QGIS and ArcGIS
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to manage commercial aspects of projects
  • Carrying out technical reviews of hydraulic models
  • Able to plan your own time, be organised and meet deadlines
  • Independent thinker able to work competently within a team.
  • Desirable:
  • Master's degree in appropriate subject
  • Chartered, or working towards, chartership with CIWEM, ICE or other similar relevant body / institution (or progressing structured training scheme in relevant discipline)
  • Undertaking the estimation of design flood flows and hydrographs using Flood Estimation Handbook methodologies including the FEH Statistical Method and the Revitalised Flood Hydrograph Method (ReFH2)
  • Basic programming language to support development of tools, such as Python
  • Experience with the planning process and dealing with Private Developers
