Full Job Description

Location: Hybrid Working - Royal Mail Sheffield or London. This is a hybrid working role with a requirement to attend Royal Mail Sheffield or London 2-3 days each week with flexibility when required, to travel to London and other Royal Mail sites in line with business needs.

This role will offer you valuable exposure to all areas of our operation and to senior stakeholders across the business, supporting our reporting to the Audit & Risk Committee.,

  • As a lead Internal Auditor you'll identify, plan, execute and report on risk based internal audits in line with the Audit Manual and best practice methodology; agree pragmatic commercial solutions that balance benefits and costs against the associated risk.

  • You'll propose risk-based audits over existing and emerging risks and proactively seek stakeholder and Internal Audit management agreement. You'll deliver these engagements and follow up on the implementation of actions raised from risk-based audits including re-testing and closure where appropriate or agreement of status updates and escalation where necessary.

  • You'll manage stakeholder relationships throughout the end-to-end audit process, including senior managers and executive directors and prepare and/or assist with the production of reports for the Royal Mail and IDS Audit & Risk Committees.

    What you need to succeed:

  • A recognised CCAB qualification, IIA or ACA or CIMA or equivalent.

  • Demonstrable experience of internal auditing / risk management, working under professional standards and / or practice.

  • Experience of working within a complex operating environment in a large business; designing and performing data driven audits strong risk and control awareness; advanced financial or operational awareness, and analytical and problem-solving awareness.

  • Experience or knowledge of data analytics tools such as ACL / IDEA, and / or a good working knowledge of CAATS.

  • Self-confident with the ability to work at all levels of the organisation, build influential relationships and be able to positively challenge senior management and directors.


  • Desirable skills:
  • Knowledge of IT governance frameworks (e.g.: COBIT, ISO 2700X, ITIL), project governance frameworks, knowledge of complex enterprise systems or, information security principles are desirable.
