Full Job Description
The Innovation Factory is the Technology Transfer Office for the University of Manchester. We work with academic and student inventors to identify innovative opportunities which create social, economic and environmental impact. We then develop these opportunities into commercially valuable Intellectual Property licenses or spin out businesses. We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Investment and Licensing Manager (Life Sciences), working within the Investment and Licensing Team and reporting to the Head of Investment and Licensing (Life Sciences). The key objectives of the role are:
- Responsible for driving the commercial transactions which result in revenue and value creation from licensing University intellectual property or investment in spin-out business.
- Assist the Innovation Factory's: Operations; Finance, Legal & Portfolio Management; Information and Digital Marketing groups by providing market and customer intelligence to support business case development and the on-going management of the asset portfolio.
Education in a discipline related to Life Sciences and a strong related working background (research or corporate). - Experience of commercial deal making in the area of transacting intellectual property.
- Experience in the analysis of financials and development of deal models to independently demonstrate commercial value and deal propositions.
- An ability to learn and master new skills necessary to deliver high value, complex licensing and investment deals.
- Proven experience working within a target driven business environment.
- An ability to develop and present commercially compelling business cases that maximizes deal value.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a wider team.
- A diplomatic yet results focused individual with sufficient gravitas to be credible with senior academic, investors and industry partners.
- Motivated by achieving stretching commercial targets
- Strong analytical skills.
- Basic understanding of management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in presenting opportunities in a professional and compelling way to potential partners and investors
- Respects and works according to the Innovation Factory's company values, namely, A degree or similar level 6 qualification in a life sciences related subject (England, Wales and Northern Ireland Qualification levels) or equivalent is essential for this role. Any Desirable criteria
- A post graduate qualification in a business-related discipline.
