Full Job Description

In these roles, you will work as part of, or lead a team of multidisciplined senior engineers in the design, development, implementation of control systems for various industrial processes or automation projects.

You will be working in an R&D or Operations Engineering environment on the latest innovative products and technologies. You will need to collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers to ensure the successful execution of projects.

Projects will vary in scale ranging from benchtop proof of principle prototypes to full scale process machinery incorporating PLC, HMI, Motion Control, Vision Systems, Instrumentation and PID control, as well as interpreting PLC codes, debugging issues and aiding continuous improvement activities within systems for motion control equipment.

The primary focus of your work will involve :

  • Taking a lead role in design, programming, installation, commissioning, debugging and testing of Control Systems used for process machinery or desktop prototypes.

  • Taking fundamental design concepts from initiation through to R&D or production equipment.

  • Leading a small team of skilled engineers, providing guidance and direction, mentoring, and development

  • Working in conjunction with cross functional teams within R&D and Operations to provide state of the art equipment solutions.

    To be successful, you will be ideally be degree qualified as a minimum in an Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering discipline or equivalent, however proven industry experience backed up by a recognised engineering apprenticeship will be considered.


  • Extensive experience of Siemens PLC control systems, HMI Configuration, and SCADA type systems is essential. You will need to be able to demonstrate proven experience in a related role in which you have designed ground up complex engineering solutions and demonstrated a creative and innovative approach to problem solving, or bring experience of working on complex automation projects and developing solutions to complex automation needs, with a track record of fault finding and modification to PLC programs for automated machinery, The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is key it's an exciting time of growth here at Abbott and you'll be exposed to a variety of work packages.

    You will bring leadership skills, ideally from line management, but those with project leading experience will also be considered we are looking for someone with passion to lead a small team, growing their individual and team success.

    Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a regulated environment.

    Experience working with Oracle database and basic cyber security knowledge would be advantageous. In addition, some knowledge in other programming languages such as C++ or Python could make you to stand out from other applicants.
