Full Job Description

Job Description Summary

Become part of a winning team and help to deliver the Green Energy transition.

Technical Lead - Transient Models will technically lead the development, verification/validation and maintenance of HVDC's transient PSCAD models that will be part of its reference solutions, initially for VSC applications and, in-time, for ongoing LCC activities.

The intention is to generate a library of version-controlled models with controls generated from the SW Trunk and with configurations to meet the needs of our projects. Such models would be a solid and known starting point for the dynamic performance studies carried out for all our projects.

This role will require close collaboration with the Consulting Engineers and Principal Engineers and shall be completed via the resources in the relevant functions, both to ensure strong links with these teams and to maximise the return of experience from OTR.

As part of this work, you will be an important part of the ITO process to assess and understand the customer's requirements for the performance of control and protection systems and possibly to carry out focused PSCAD studies where needed.

Job Description

Key Objectives:

  • Ensure the technical accuracy and performance of a library of PSCAD models that will be used to validate the dynamic performance of our control systems and associated HVDC schemes.

  • Ensure that these models are well maintained and bench-marked, wherever possible, against other results from laboratory testing and commissioning in the field.

  • Detailed Role:
  • Work as part of the Reference Solution team and with the functions to establish PSCAD models to go with each of these solutions.

  • Ensure these models are well validated and where possible verified against available data from laboratory testing or site commissioning.

  • Take feedback and return of experience from OTR on the use and efficiency of these models and work with the functions to improve and develop the models accordingly.

  • Coach and, where appropriate train, OTR engineers on the use of the models and dynamic performance studies to be carried out as part of the projects.

  • Work closely with NPI and Product Care to be well coordinated with the development of the functionality within the SW trunk.

  • Support the ITO teams, consulting engineers and Principal Engineers in understanding customer's requirements and identifying any gaps that might exist in comparison to performance available from our controls.

  • Where appropriate, supervise or carry out PSCAD studies to support ITO work or to better understand or evaluate certain customer requirements.

  • Approve test results and documentation as needed as part of this work.

  • Be very aware of the various V&V activities being carried out on projects to look for opportunities to evaluate or further improve the results provided by the PSCAD models.

  • Quality:
  • Comply with all Quality Procedures, work instructions and processes.

  • Report or resolve any non-conformances and process in a timely manner.

  • EHS:
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety through participation in formal and informal discussions.

  • Adhere to all safe working procedures in accordance with instructions.

  • Ensure safety work instructions are complied.

  • Participate in the resolution of safety issues.

  • Values:
  • Comply with the GE code of ethics and Values.

  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with considerable experience or equivalent knowledge and experience in modelling techniques.

  • An excellent can-do attitude and energy level.

  • Outstanding leadership and organisational skills, excellent problem-solving ability.

  • Works well to deadlines and under pressure.

  • Exceptional communication and coaching skills.

  • Demonstrated track record of success in working with global engineering teams.

  • Familiar with VSC/LCC control system design, electrical networks, studies, implementation and validation principals and techniques: PSCAD/RSCAD, Simulink, RTDS.

  • Experience with tools: Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet / MSProject / P6.
