We are looking to appoint a new fellow into our long-running Senior Fellow position at the Manchester Adult Burns Centre (Wythenshawe Hospital) and the Manchester Paediatric Burns Centre (Royal Manchester Children's Hospital). The fellowship, which has been running for over ten years, would be suitable for senior trainees who hold the FRCS(Plast) and are looking to develop advanced skills in the management of adult and paediatric major burn injuries, as well as receive mentorship as they finish their training and prepare for a role as a consultant surgeon with an interest in adult and paediatric burn care., The post holder will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day running of the burns service: acting as the most senior trainee on the unit, running the burns MDTs, coordinating the burns lists, and undertaking ward care and surgical procedures on our patients with burn injuries. These duties will be under the supervision of the burns consultant of the day who will be available for all sessions, and the level of responsibility will be tailored to the post-holders' abilities and training needs.
The post-holder will have the opportunity to develop their skills in the acute management of severe burns, the initial and late surgical management of burn wounds and late deformities, and in scar management. It is expected the post-holder will gain competencies in engaging with the full spectrum of essential/ as required members of the multi-disciplinary team and learn to value their input in clinical decision making, managing burns in patients with challenging medical/surgical/psychological/developmental conditions; managing complex microbiological challenges, competency in having difficult discussions with patients/carers and legal authorities as well as learn when less is best.
