Full Job Description

We're currently recruiting for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Group Legal, Compliance and Governance Team (GLCG). This role will provide legal support to the businesses within our Natural Resources, Nuclear and Networks division., As a Senior Legal Counsel, your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Day-to-day support to the commercial and operational teams to manage legal and commercial risk with a view to protecting the commercial and legal position of the business and the Group.

  • Supporting bid teams on high-value or strategically significant tenders, including contract review, supporting internal gateways where required and participating in negotiations (both with clients and joint venture partners).

  • Providing advice and strategic guidance on issues in a pre-dispute setting, and ensuring efficient and effective handling of disputes through formal dispute resolution processes.

  • Assisting business units in achieving compliance with Group governance requirements and good risk management in a pre-contract setting.

  • Responsibility for the appointment, management, scope and cost control of external legal advisers where required, in conjunction with the business and Head of Legal - Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks.

  • Involvement in developing and delivering toolkits and legal awareness training on various issues across Kier and maintaining legal precedents.

    Mid-senior level Solicitor/Barrister admitted to England & Wales or passed QLTs.

  • Knowledge and experience of UK infrastructure contracting and construction law, gained from either private practice or an in-house environment.

  • Experience of both contentious and non-contentious matters or a willingness to develop your skillset to cover both.

  • Excellent knowledge of key standard forms, in particular NEC3 and NEC4.

  • Good relationship builder at all levels of seniority.

  • Able to articulate complex legal concepts in simple commercial language.
