Full Job Description

The post holder works in the team which keeps the linear accelerator treatment machines and other radiotherapy equipment, operational, maintained, repaired and safe, and assists with their installation, commissioning, QA and development. It also includes designing innovative equipment and giving specialist advice. They will also participate in the team which maintains the IT networks between the treatment facilities. This work is essential for the effective treatment of cancer patients.
Radiotherapy Physics provides all the background scientific and technical data, advice and expertise to the radiotherapy and physics departments for the treatment machines, computer systems and specialized devices. This is fundamental for patient doses to be prescribed and given correctly, safe operation of equipment and staff protection from X-Rays. It includes specifications for the equipment, calibration and QA, repair & maintenance, data networking and computer control, and individualized patient dose computations. Its expert sections include mechanical engineering, machine maintenance & repair, brachytherapy, computing & electronics, treatment planning, dosimetry, training & teaching, and R&D. It also provides a full Radiation Protection service to all X-Ray users in SE Wales., + To participate in providing planned and emergency maintenance and repair of highly complex treatment systems.
+ To advise on the safe working condition and alignment of clinical treatment machines.
+ To assist in the system management of the radiotherapy treatment computer systems.
+ Undertakes Quality Assurance regimes on treatment machines according to local protocol.
+ Undertakes specific Research and Development Projects and helps instigate changes of practice which result from these.
+ Assist with the commissioning of treatment machines as required.
Specific responsibilities for other services will depend on the skills of the post holder.
There is a requirement to support the work across the breadth of the department on a call and rota basis.
