Full Job Description
An opportunity has arisen at University Hospital Dorset for a motivated and experienced nurse - AHP to fulfil the role of Senior Matron for Trauma and Orthopaedics/ Private Health. The Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate provides trauma and elective orthopaedic services at two of UHD's hospital sites. The current Orthopaedic Trauma provision is located on the Poole site and includes a brand new 'Barn' theatre, virtual fracture clinics/plaster room and Trauma and Orthopaedic Ambulatory Care Unit (TOACU). The service has 4 Trauma wards focusing on: Trauma admissions; complex Trauma injuries; lower limb fragility factures and a medically stable trauma ward which focuses on rehabilitation. The Royal Bournemouth Hospital site currently focuses on elective orthopaedics and is supported by 2 inpatient wards, Pre assessment/Outpatient and theatre provision including 3 dedicated operating theatres and outpatient service.
The Trauma Directorate sits within the Surgical Care Group, and supports both elective/emergency surgery, Head and Neck, and Trauma services as well as UHD critically unwell patients. Participation in duty Matron roles late shift and weekend/bank holiday would be required. The post works within the Directorate Triumvirate and is a vital role to support Transformation and strategy planning for the future with the Emergency and Elective sites., The post holder will work closely with the Directorate Managers.
The post holder takes the nursing lead in the directorate triumvirate with the Directorate Manager and clinical director sharing leadership responsibility for the operational and strategic leadership of the critical care services. Supporting not only the current service but working strategically transforming services for the future .
To lead, develop, and continuously improve clinical care and services within the critical care service. Providing leadership and expertise to strategically influence and assure the provision of high quality, safe, and effective care to nursing staff, patients and the public.
To provide clinical and professional leadership to assigned Matrons and specialist nursing/midwifery teams ensuring that action is taken at all levels to empower nurses/AHP to provide high standards of care in a safe environment.
