Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified nurse with experience of working with eating disorder patients and their families to work as part of the Forward Thinking Birmingham community Specialist Eating Disorders Service (SEDS).

SEDS provide specialist assessment, intervention and evidence-based treatment for patients 0-25 with eating disorders in the community, alongside supporting their families/carers. The team also supports patients intensively in the community and in their own homes, to reduce inpatient admissions and facilitate safe early discharge.

The post holder will be required to have a high level of communication skills, both written and verbal, be compassionate, respectful and value individual patient needs. They will have the ability to recognise and manage challenging situations in a calm and professional manner (this may be clinic based or in the home), be resilient and emotionally intelligent and engage positively with children, young adults and families. An excellent working knowledge of child protection and adult safeguarding issues for the age range 0-25 is essential.

SEDS are an established and ambitious team who are keen to drive forward service improvements through research in our specialist area. This includes working in collaboration with SLaM to become part of a group of spoke sites within the FREED network service, research and innovation scheme., This Senior mental health practitioner role will work within the SEDS MDT, providing community eating disorder assessment and treatment with a focus on the intensive pathway.

Undertake comprehensive clinical assessments of physical and psychosocial needs of patients with eating disorders and other MH comorbidities, as part of the SEDS assessment clinics.

Provide evidence based treatment for patients with eating disorders in the community.

Responsible for a defined caseload of community patients with eating disorders and MH needs/risks.

Contribute to the ED Duty rota, providing telephone triage and risk screening for potential ED referrals received through FTB Referral Management Centre (RMC).

Provide intensive ED treatment in the home, community and medical wards.

Contribute to extended assessment and formulation for complex patients or those hard to reach/engage in community treatment.

Provide liaison between SEDS, Urgent care, Psychiatric Liaison, inpatient provider collaboratives and acute medical colleagues.

Coordinate joint care planning with acute medical wards.
