Full Job Description

We are looking to appoint an Operational Coordinator with relevant band 7 experience to lead the midwifery team with a helicopter view of all midwifery settings. Strong leadership and communication skills at operational level are vital to ensure the MDT team are supported and empowered to provide care that is both safe and responsive to women and babies. This is a 12 months, part-time, fixed term opportunity for night shifts only.

Midwifery by nature is unpredictable, leading to activity and acuity levels that are both fluid and transient. As a result, the maternity workforce is required to be responsive to these ever-changing service demands. The operational coordinator remains responsible for the effective redeployment of staff to ensure that women are receiving care by the right person, in the right place at the right time.

The successful applicant will become fully inclusive of the existing operational coordination team with responsibilities to mirror those individuals following a period of training.

Whilst this is recognised to be a unique development opportunity, the successful applicant will receive a personalised approach to identifying and facilitating learning needs whilst ensuring a supportive and nurturing network.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual who is keen to develop into a more senior midwifery role in the future. The successful applicant will be required to have existing knowledge and experience in leading / managing a team.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to.

All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on site and remote working, Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

It is anticipated that by identifying an additional member of staff to join the operational coordination team, the MDT team working across the service will benefit in terms of clear direction, support and strong leadership. This is turn should see some impact in emotional wellbeing and consequently reduces reported episodes of short-term sickness from staff members experiencing stress and burn-out.

The successful applicant will benefit from working alongside the midwifery leadership team and gain exposure and experience at senior level, both from a service perspective and on a broader corporate level.
