Full Job Description

Perform advanced assessment of patients referred to the Hand Therapy Department from the Orthopaedic, Rheumatology or MSK departments of the Whittington Hospital. Use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide a diagnosis and to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme for referred patients.

To maintain accurate records of treatment plans and communicate with other professionals regarding patients progress/treatment/on going management as required

Be Responsible for autonomous management of own caseload of patients with acute, chronic or complex conditions, who may have experienced Trauma or undergone elective surgery.

Supervise, educate, and assess students and provide specialised advice and teaching to other health care professionals in the specific clinical area. To assist in the delivery of in-service training programme for Band 5 OT/PT

Undertake activities which contribute to own continuing professional development which may include, audit, evidence-based learning, and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager for changes to practice by the team. May lead on the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to development of service protocols.

To deputise for team leader as requested for the day-to-day running of the service

This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in this specialist area with regular teaching and 1:1 support from a Senior Hand Therapist. Whilst some prior experience of working in a hand therapy or Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy is advantageous it is not essential as training and support will be given.

Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are essential and the ability to undertake some directed learning in relation to the injuries and conditions seen in this setting.

Service development and quality improvement are actively encouraged and you will be supported to undertake any projects relevant to the role.
