Full Job Description

Have you ever thought about joining a multidisciplinary team where you get to work in a diverse, welcoming, and fun environment, on amazing projects, whilst making a real difference in people's lives? Then look no further than Stantec, where we are working with clients, regulators and stakeholders to develop effective and sustainable solutions driven by the environmental needs of our natural inland and coastal catchments. If this sounds like something that appeals to you, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Catchment Scientist to join our team based in Brighton. You could be joining Stantec's Catchment and Nature-Based Solutions (C&NBS) team, working on the continuous development of our expertise in all aspects of integrated catchment management to develop sustainable water, land and asset management solutions to meet the aspirations of the Government's 25-year environment plan. Much of our work involves understanding the linkages and dependencies in catchment systems to meet future water management demands, from both a water supply and wastewater treatment perspective and with growing public awareness of environmental challenges, including climate change and pollution. This is a key role in a growing team focused on applying science-based understanding to identify opportunities for nature-based solutions, either as an alternative to or in support of, more traditional engineered solutions. You will work on a portfolio of projects across the Water, Energy and Community Development sectors. The projects will require you to collaborate with other experts (e.g. water and wastewater treatment, urban drainage, urban development, sustainability and environmental economics) and through working closely with our clients integrate asset, land and water management to deliver benefits for the environment and society. This is a great opportunity for an experienced and imaginative catchment scientist to join an ambitious team in a role that will provide plenty of scope for technical development and career progression in the coming years. The role is client-facing with an expectation that you will have and continue to develop strong collaborative relationships with clients, regulators and stakeholders. You will prepare technical proposals and reports, and supervise colleagues including checking and reviewing outputs and evaluating progress against time and budget constraints. You will provide mentorship to junior staff and strengthen relationships with other disciplines within Stantec. Stantec has major contracts throughout the UK and Ireland that require the above expertise. Whilst we are very successful in our markets we are looking to the future, where the latest guidance and regulation puts far greater emphasis on multi-stakeholder sustainable solutions. This role is about being part of our journey where we have already seen substantial growth in our services and are confident this will continue for the foreseeable future.,

  • Establishing the position of Trusted Advisor with clients, regulators and stakeholders
  • Demonstrable contribution to the collaborative and continuous development of our services to establish and maintain a market-leading position.
  • Developing new business opportunities within the UK and Ireland and building relationships with partners and specialist sub-consultants
  • Providing technical management and specialist input to catchment investigations and nature-based solutions
  • To guide, develop and strengthen our specialist team
  • We are proud of our culture. We have an open, friendly and professional environment where ideas are shared, and opportunities seized. We know our continuing success and development depend on yours, so we go all the way when it comes to giving you the support you need to be the very best. If you want to work on exciting and diverse projects that make a difference in people's lives - then a career at Stantec could be the one for you!

You will hold a relevant Degree qualification and post-graduate qualification with a background in one or more water quality, catchment science, natural flood management and pollution management. Proven experience in providing consulting services to one or more of our target sectors along with experience in the development of nature-based solutions such as wetlands, natural flood management or soil management will be advantageous.
