Full Job Description

Are you an experienced Transmission Line or Overhead Line (OHL) Engineer interested in working within a successful and progressive engineering consultancy within the global Energy & Resources sector? If so, then we have a great opportunity for you to take on real responsibility for delivering OHL and other projects within our Transmission & Distribution division (part of the 'Energy & Resources' division of Stantec). The role can be based in Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London or Newcastle - with Stantec's commitment to hybrid working allowing a combination between office and home working. As an Overhead Line Engineer within our team you will take the lead on OHL projects and project deliverables - producing and reviewing technical documents in line with industry standards. It is a varied role that will see you involved in the development of design criteria, conductor selection, structure type selection, insulation coordination and lightning performance. You will lead on the development of typical OHL design deliverables - including line schedules, plan/profile drawings, staking tables and special crossings design. Providing support and mentoring for others within the team will be an important part of the role - contributing to an environment where everyone feels supported and able to play their part in successful project delivery.

You will have experience as either an Overhead Line Design Engineer, Senior Overhead Line Design Engineer or Overhead Line Project Engineer, or similar role working on various Transmission and Distribution projects. Preferably you would have worked for either a Design Consultant, Design/Build Contractor, or an Asset Owner in your experience to date. You will have experience in using PLS-CADD to carry out both new OHL designs and modifications to existing designs. For this role it would be beneficial if you bring a strong understanding of complimentary T&D disciplines to OHL Design - for example an understanding/experience of HV Plant design or HV Cable design or T&D Civil design. The ideal candidate will possess a broad background with a specialism in OHL to be treated as beneficial. Typical requirements we think might be valuable:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural or Civil Engineering or industry experience if coming from a hands-on/construction pathway
  • Prior experience in the power industry with experience in an OHL design role
  • CEng or IEng registration or working towards registration
  • Experience of developing OHL deliverables as well as managing OHL delivery and workload across multiple projects.
  • Finally, you will be a team player with a passion for innovation and client service, with ambitions to tackle a range of engineering challenges as our teams look to continue its growth in the sector. If you think that you fit some but not all of the criteria above and think you would be a good fit, we would encourage you to apply as we are a team looking to grow together and will support you with development areas needed to help us thrive together.
