Full Job Description

  • Work closely with researchers, developers, engineers, and technicians to identify inventions, determine suitability for patent protection, and draft and prosecute patent applications globally

  • Steer BT patent applications to grant in a timely and cost-effective manner

  • Support IP commercialization activities, litigation, post-grant legal procedures, IP disputes, and negotiations

  • Influence BT's patent strategy and procedures for obtaining and maintaining its global patent portfolio

  • Advise BT colleagues on various IP-related issues impacting business decisions

  • Coach other patent attorneys in BT to keep their knowledge of IP law and practice up-to-date

  • Raise awareness of the commercial impact of IP within BT

    STEM graduate with a postgraduate qualification in STEM and/or Intellectual Property Law

  • Qualified UK and European Patent Attorney

  • Rights of Representation before the UK, European, and Unified Patent Court authorities

  • Extensive patent drafting and prosecution experience

  • Ability to understand the work of BT's research, development, engineering, and technical teams

  • Experience in litigation, post-grant legal procedures, IP disputes, or negotiations

  • Ability to influence the development of the patent strategy of a multinational corporation
